WE SPONSOR MAITLAND METEORS SOFTBALL CLUB

We have been proud to sponsor the newly-formed Maitland Meteors Softball Club this year. The Maitland Meteors are on the rise. Three seasons after starting with just one softball team,  the Meteors endeavour to field up to 10 sides in 2015-2016, including first grade outfits in both women’s and men’s competitions.

Did you know although Softball began as an indoor sport, it’s now generally played outdoors? Softball is fast paced bat and ball sport of skill, timing and power played between two teams over 7 innings. Each team alternates at the bat and in the field. The fielding team tries to get the batting team out in each innings and to keep them from reaching the home plate to score a run. Once the fielding team dismisses the opposing team, it is their turn to bat

Shane Healy, General Manager of Resolute Equipment said, “We are proud to be associated with the Maitland Meteors Softball Club. Working with local clubs like this is an important part of what Resolute Equipment is about. Supporting local communities create strong communities and we are a proud Newcastlian based company.

The popularity of softball is growing fast – both as a recreational and a competitive sport. “And it keeps you physically active while providing a social outlet as well.” Meteors first grade player and foundation committee member Kelly Meehan said. Softball is played on every continent and there are regional, continental, national and world championship events.

The season took off on October 10 2015, with matches played each Saturday at Stevenson Park, just off Industrial Drive at Mayfield.  Maitland Meteors Softball Club Incorporated is an affiliate club of Newcastle & District Softball Association (NDSA) which in turn is affiliated with Softball NSW. All training is done at McKeachies Sportsground, Red Gum Cct, Aberglasslyn on Wednesday’s and Thursday’s.
