Caterpillar has introduced a new smartphone app for used earthmoving equipment that enables operators to be the experts of their fleet. Mixed fleet? No problem. In fact, you don’t even need to have consistent access to the internet to complete a thorough earthmoving inspection. You only need the internet to download, upload, or sync inspections on the easy-to-use CAT Inspect app.
Small issues quickly become big issues and expensive problems. You can get to the root of a potential problem quickly by using the CAT Inspect app. Even your dealer might be able to utilise the information stored in the app to help with machine diagnostics.
The free app, available from the Google Play Store, Apple App Store, and Windows Store enables operators to conduct three different types of machine inspections:
1. Daily Inspections, AKA ‘The Money Saver’
You conduct this inspection using any smartphone or tablet within the first 10-15 minutes of your shift. This is the basic check of fluids and four-corner inspection and greasing.
2. Technical Analysis, AKA ‘Just a check-up’
You’ll need to conduct one of these every 250-500 hours of operation. The technical analysis function of the app allows you to make a more in-depth visual inspection. You can get this done in about a half an hour and it includes assessment of lower, mid and upper, as well as implements and attachments. Equipment inspection has never been more thorough or as easy, with the app enabling photographs and notes to be taken for assessment and later comparison.
