Even though we’re deep in winter in Australia, the construction and mining industry across Australia is hardly slowing in pace. With World Youth Skills Day just around the corner on Friday 15th July, it’s an ideal time for young people across the nation to consider a career in mining and/or construction, as the prospects to learn and flourish within the industry are only expanding.
With a multitude of apprenticeship opportunities within the sector, from metallurgists to plumbers, World Youth Skills Day is set to only encourage the youths of Australia to get involved.
SIGNIFICANT OPPORTUNITIES FOR THEM, GOLDEN OPPORTUNITIES FOR US
The day, pushed on social media with the hashtag #SkillsRuleTheWorld, was founded by the UN in order to encourage new generations to expand their skills in workplaces such as building and construction. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon notes that “skills development… better equips young people to find decent jobs. It triggers a process of empowerment and self-esteem that benefits everyone.”
At Resolute Equipment, we are strong advocates of Australian apprenticeships within the minerals industry, being the leading supplier of equipment to construction, building and mining across the nation. It’s easy to realise that the opportunities offered and highlighted by World Youth Skills Day can only impact the industry we supply in a positive way: by encouraging Australia’s young men and women to seek out such apprenticeships, it helps our mining and construction industries both grow and thrive. Giving apprenticeships within these sectors gives more back to Australia’s economy.
WHAT DO APPRENTICESHIPS IN MINING AND CONSTRUCTION OFFER?
An apprenticeship is an ideal way to both jump into the deep end of a career you love, while also getting the gradual introduction you need to understand the ins and outs of construction, building and/or mining. With wages of up to $1750 a week, apprenticeships offer job security and a solid income while you get your foot in the door. Student websites such as SkillsOne have all the guidance needed to take the next steps.
One of the most exciting aspects about the mining and construction industry is, as we reported, its constant in-demand status and the challenges it offers. It’s an essential asset of Australia’s economy, never going out of fashion, and offers boundless career prospects, making World Youth Skills Day a great place to get started as a building and construction apprentice.
